Hello there, little monsters! I would like to congratulate you on your excellent web site! I'm happy to be with you and i thank you for giving me this opportunity. Our day was very special today because Dimitra, our classmate who had had a very bad accident some weeks ago, returned to school. Let's hope that she will be completely well again soon. Christmas in England

Christmas is celebrated on the 25th of December in England, with a Christmas dinner for the whole family.

During the weeks before Christmas Day, we send cards, watch nativity plays and go to carol services. We also decorate our homes and churches with green leaves, paper decorations and colourful electric lights. any of our Christmas customs began long before Jesus was born. They came from earlier festivals which had nothing to do with the Christian church. Long time ago people had mid-winter festivals when the days were shortest and the sunlight weakest. They believed that their ceremonies would give the sun back its power. The Romans, for example, held the festival of Saturnalia around 25 December. They decorated their homes with evergreens to remind them of Saturn, their harvest god, to return the following spring.ome of these customs and traditions were adopted by early Christians as part of their celebrations of Jesus' birthday.

In Victorian times some new ideas such as Father Christmas, Christmas cards and crackers were added to the celebrations.

Good morning little monsters stroumfita and fede, I'm very well, thank you and very happy to hear from you. It's a cold day today so I'm thinking of "warming you up" a bit by giving you the lyrics of a very beautiful, traditional English song, "The Twelve Days of Christmas". It refers to the 12 days starting from 25th December and ending on 5th January. Have a first idea about it now and we'll also sing it all together in class. Prepare your melodical throats and catch your breath because you will need it! Here it is!

Advent Calendar - Day 22

There are 13 Jolasveinars (Father Christmas) in Iceland. Each one has a different name. See if you can pronounce their names: Stekkjarstaur, Giljagaur, Stufur, Thvorusleikir, Pottaskefill, Askasleikir, Hurdarskellir, Skyrgamur, Bjugnakraekir, Gluggagaegir, Gattathefur, Ketkrokur and Kertasnikir.
Jolasveinars are different from the Father Christmas we know because they do naughty things like slamming doors. They are sometimes called 'Christmas boys because of the mischief they do.

Each Jolasveinar is naughty in different ways. Candle Beggar snatches candles. Meat Hooker tries to run off with the roast and Door Slammer awakens sleepers by slamming doors.

The 13 Jolasveinars each arrive on a different day, beginning Dec. 12 until Christmas Day.

December 23rd is St. Thorlakur's Day named after Iceland's major native Saint, Thorlakur Thorhallsson. There is a tradition in Iceland to eat the fish named skate on this day.

In Iceland they open their presents around the Christmas tree on Christmas Eve.

The traditional Christmas dinner is smoked lamb.

The last day of Christmas is celebrated on 6th of January and is called "Threttandinn". Bonfires are lit and they have fireworks.
